The Journey is…

I am simply amazed at the great lengths the Lord goes through to bless us…His children.  Time after time….after time, He continually finds ways to remind me that, “He’s Got It”  God’s got it all under control.  IT = EVERYTHING THAT CONCERNS ME!

He cares.  He cares even about the small, seemingly insignificant things.

For example: My Jessica has been wanting a quilt for her bedroom for a few years.

Two things have kept her quilt from her:

#1…every single quilt I have shown her has not been quite what she wanted.

#2…a handmade quilt made to her liking has not been in my budget.

Last week we were shopping…as usual, we went to the bedding section…and again nothing was “THE ONE”.  I knew she wanted the quilt to have the aqua color that we found in an old cup at a flea market.  She proceeded to tell me that when she pictures the perfect color for her quilt…it has red in it.  I was very surprised!  She has NEVER liked RED!

FFWD a few days.  Early Saturday morning as I was driving home from one of my Mom Taxi excursions…a yard sale caught my eye.  What actually caught my attention was some boogie boards to decorate Emily’s Hawaaiian themed bedroom (which I got for $2 each…YAY!).

Sitting right beside my new treasures was JESSICA’S QUILT!  The perfect one!  I just knew it…everything she had been describing to me for the last 2 years!

It was just the top(it still needs to be quilted)…other than that it was EXACTLY what she wanted.  They sold it to me for $5.  FIVE DOLLARS!  I think maybe I could have bought the thread to hold it together for that price!  What a blessing!

I have told a few people about my find.  I think I’m the only one who finds it truly AMAZING!  I think about all the variables the Lord went through to get this to my girl.  Someone, somewhere, picked the perfect colors out….took the time to piece it together by hand….somehow it ended up at THIS yard sale.

I had to be out early that morning to drive by & find it.  Which meant someone had to plan the youth trip that Jessica wanted to go on, so I would be driving by that early in the morning.

Someone else had to be tired of their boogie boards, to even draw my attention to the side of the road.

…and my list goes on….  I just think it is so like God to care about something that in the whole scheme of the world…is not very important.  But it WAS important to my girl…and it was important to me…so that makes it important to MY Jesus!

So…whatever your “IT” is, big or small…just remember, God’s got it.  He cares…so you don’t have to.  He is the master arranger.  Even if you can’t see how right now…He is at this moment putting all the scattered pieces of your life together, and is going to great lengths to bless you, His child.  You can rest now.

The Journey is…Supportive

Walk faster.  Straighten up.  Pay attention.  What in the world were you thinking!?!….Sound familiar?

All things a GOOD Daddy might say.

So many times when the Lord speaks to me…He is giving me small adjustments(CORRECTION).  Only to help prepare me for the race & the races to come in my journey of life.

You know what else a GOOD Daddy says? (I think mine’s the best! )  From time to time I hear him say:

“You did good kid, I’m proud of you!”

Have you heard anyone say that to you lately?  If not & you’re reading this blog post today, I believe it’s God’s way of saying to YOU….

“YOU did good kid, I’m proud of you!”

Your Good Heavenly Father ~ God

The Journey is…HOT!!!

Ran with Matt today…at 1pm, in Humid, ALABAMA, 90 degree weather!!!  It was his idea.  I prefer cool, early morning running, but had woken up too late for that.  I made my feeble attempt at excuses, but as always…his encouragement was just what I needed to get out there and get going.

That was TOUGH!

The same path that I typically run with ease(kind of), was at times torture today!  In the end, we finished…and, as usual…it was a great run.  Worth every minute!

All I could think today was…

How often we judge others in their race of life…never thinking of the extreme conditions they may be running in.  Some we know…some we don’t.  We may have been down a similar path, but that doesn’t make it the same race.  May I be a woman of God’s unlimited mercy & grace…

The Journey is….Valuable ~ a treasure.

Written many months ago…I am adding this to my blog today in Honor of Mr. Lemon’s Birthday!  Happy Birthday Mr. Kevin…you are a blessing!

Mr. Kevin is a…Lemon?

by Matt’n’Julia Freeman Davis on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 11:40pm

Every one of us knows a Mr. Kevin….my dad is also one of these…If you know him, you love him…or do you hate him…or maybe it’s both…it’s really hard to decide sometimes.  They have a heart of gold, and strong beliefs.  It’s in the delivery process of these beliefs that sometimes when they are done we are left feeling like….what in the world just happened here?  But when you sort it all out…they are normally correct!

Mr. Kevin once said to me when describing himself, “Not everyone likes strawberry, or vanilla….so that’s why God made chocolate”.   My first thought was,  “But chocolate is my favorite food EVER CREATED by God for us to enjoy!  Especially when it’s big chunks of it mixed in my ice cream!”  Mr. Kevin could NOT be chocolate!

But if he’s not strawberry, vanilla OR chocolate…what is he exactly?

I have come to the conclusion that Mr. Kevin is a LEMON!  On the outside it looks nice enough…but that first bite…just makes your mouth draw up just thinking about it doesn’t it?  I mean, we give it to our babies…just so we can watch the awful expression that they make & laugh at them.  Don’t give up on me Mr. Kevin…it gets better 🙂

Then again…when we gave it to Grace the first time…after that initial awful face, she LOVED IT!  One of her favorite treats when we go out to eat is eating everyone’s lemons off of their water glasses.

…and…if you think about it…you can really appreciate the Lemon & all that it ads to our culinary delights…

Sometimes that lemon needs just the perfect amount of sugar, water & ice added to it.  On a HOT Summer day, here in Alabama…a tall glass of fresh squeezed ice cold lemonade would be refreshingly delightful!  Just what we wanted!

What about the flavor it ads to our favorite foods?  Lemon Pepper Chicken, Lemon Ice Box Pie, Lemon & butter on our fish, etc. etc. etc….and my personal favorite use of lemon…lemon water…the lemon just makes it taste better!  WE LOVE LEMON!!!

Not only that…consider this!  We sometimes use Lemon as a preserving agent!  We are instructed to use lemon juice on our fresh fruit to keep it from turning brown!

I’m sure there are many other uses…but those are the first things that come to my mind.  While some people just don’t like lemon, in any form, ever…for most of us if we would take a little time to get to know the “lemon” we would embrace the very thing that upon first glance, and taste, we think we don’t even like at all.  When we take the time to understand it, we are able to see it’s value. What a variety of ways that this simple, little, yellow fruit ads so much flavor & zest to our lives!

So Mr. Kevin…and all you other Lemons out there….make no more apologies for who you are!  You are a gift to the body of Christ just as you are.  Sometimes God just has to use another person to come along & add a little sugar…or maybe He only needs a little of your citrus juices to make this particular recipe of life exactly what is needed at the time.  At times…the Lord has put you in a place with those who need you…your gifts act as a preserving agent…to keep them.

Sometimes He even needs you…just simply you…the whole fruit…because there are a few people out there who just LOVE YOU…the WHOLE FRUIT…exactly like you are!  Thank you for being the whole lemon to me…sometimes those things you have spoken in boldness are the things that I actually remember at just the perfect time.

You(Mr. Kevin) once said to me…A tree is content with being just a tree. Exactly what it was created to do…the same thing goes for the Lemon.  Be happy & content as the Lemon that God made you!

“He  makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own  special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is  healthy and growing and full of love.”

Ephesians 4:16

Mr. Kevin

…and if this didn’t make a bit of sense…or you don’t like it…I will gladly hit “delete”….seriously.

The Journey is…addicting

I have a confession to make….You would think that with all the victory I have experienced this past year…I would just jump out of bed every morning…anticipating the morning’s run.

Instead, my first thought is…..”I don’t like to run.”    Most days I don’t even want to run.  I even get grumpy at the mere thought of having to run.

So why do I run?

When I make myself run “grumpy”, I feel:

-like a winner…I win over myself, my excuses, my flesh.

-in chargeIn the life I have happily chosen, I am often pulled 15 different directions…attempting to make everyone elses life the best it can be.   At times things feel quite out of my control.   When running….I choose if I’m going to run, where I’m going, how long I run, which direction to go, what to listen to, which races to enter.

-alone…I cherish rare quiet moments.  Even when running with a partner or during a race with thousands of people…somehow…I still feel alone, and I like it.

-loved…God speaks to my spirit & ministers to my life the most when I run.  I’m sure that’s why He tried to get me to start for all those years.

I have found that…”grumpy” always, without fail, turns into “happy”!  Satisfied.

I do have a theory…the more I choose to listen to my Spirit, my flesh will fall into submission.  I believe the day will come that I will wake up…excited about lacing up my shoes!

There was a short time in my life where I felt accustomed to losing.  Running makes me feel like the winner that God created us all to be…and I like that!

I like it a lot…You might even say I’m becoming addicted to winning!

The Journey is…Simple

As a Christian…all my life’s decisions simply boil down to this one thought:

Now that’s a simple thought.

It’s my choice:

If I continue to eat every snack cake in the cabinet…does that show my kids that the Lord helps us do hard things? Yes….at this moment in my life…I consider self control & my food choices a hard thing 🙂

If I react to life with worry or fear…is that proving my complete trust in the Lord who perfects those things that concern me?

If I let those words come out of my mouth…are they going to minister grace to the hearer?  Am I being a living example of the Love of God?

If the Lord leads me to do something (as in RUN)…and I keep making excuses….nobody benefits.  The people that the Lord intended to be ministered to, including myself, are not drawn closer to the Lord through the life I am living.

Do my actions backup my beliefs?   My choices must line up with God’s Word…if they do…we will all be drawn closer to our God who loves us!  He gives us the POWER to put action to our beliefs!  SIMPLE!

Deuteronomy 30:19-20

“…I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling  to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days”
