The Journey is…Valentine’s Day :(

Valentine’s Day….blah, blah, blah….with love to all my single girlfriends….

by Matt’n’Julia Freeman Davis on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 1:16pm

I admit it….I’m the Valentine’s Day Scrooge!

Crazy, I know….Valentine’s Day was always a traumatic day for me growing up(I may be exaggerating…but that is how my mind remembers it)…

Me…always somewhat nerdy…never picked for the couples skate…I did get something one time on Valentine’s Day from a guy…but at the same time…he was telling me he didn’t want to see me any more and asked if I cared if he asked one of my friends out…

I think I may be the only one who has been traumatized by Valentine’s Day…I don’t know 🙂  (If Kevin Cease is reading this…I KNOW…CRAZY…I should get over it already…when there are people in this world with REAL problems!  I know I’m blessed to have lived in my little happy world…but you still have to love me!  In fact I may tag you…just don’t cuss me out…haha…I love you!)

I didn’t get over this “holiday” even after I was married….until finally one day a few years ago…Matt bought a box of kids valentines cards for me…and wrote one for each year that I had been alive…from my first Valentine’s Day up until the current Valentine’s Day.

One for each year that he had loved me and was looking for me…but had not met me yet…and one for each year since….

That meant so much to me…and I wanted to share this with you all.

Even before Matt…I was complete…valuable….beautifully and wonderfully made in the image of God…I knew that!  But something about this man made holiday…I just let this world’s system impact how valuable I saw myself.

I just want to make sure you know….

You are loved an treasured….EVERYDAY!  Especially by the one who gave His life for you…JESUS!  You are perfect and complete just as you are….you were created for and are a fulfilling your divine purpose on this earth.  And if your hearts desire is to be married one day….you are loved by someone, somewhere that is praying for someone JUST LIKE YOU!  You don’t have to change one thing about you…those things others try to change about you are probably the things he likes the most…

Happy Valentines Day!  You are loved!

~Julia

    • Jon D ShimeallAww, that is sweet.  We have never celebrated it.  Just not into it.  Though my kids do exchange cards with Awana group and homeschool group.

    • Matt’n’Julia Freeman DavisMatt agrees w/you…He said it is a holiday someone made up to make money…it’s for little kids…and he doesn’t think that you should be told when you HAVE to tell someone you love them….and you should show your love for each other EVERY DAY!

    • Matt’n’Julia Freeman DavisI agree…but it’s still important to ME, for him to acknowledge me in some way…so he does.

<3Well, let’s see…my first marriage ended two days before Valentine’s day.  My second ended shortly after V-Day.  My third was annulled the week of Valentine’s day.  Most years otherwise, I’ve spent flying solo on Valentine’s day with the… exception of the years I was with Andre….so, yeah.  It’s not exactly been the highlight day of my year for the last 20 some odd years.  And, the good Lord knows that if you even remotely thought you were nerdy, it put me into a whole different class of nerdom…Uber nerd?  **grins**Love you, Julia.  You are a wonderful and delightful woman – who I am glad to have as my sister.  Even more so, I am thrilled that you and Matt have such a wonderful, healthy and blessed life together.  I hope you share many, many more years to come. ♥See More

Julia, you weren’t the only one who dredded seeing this holiday come. I grew up w/o a regular bf when it came around. No prospects at all, or a breakup just before it would come. Wait…I think I had one bf ..my last one a yr b4 me and my h…usband reconnected. Now we just choose to spend time regularly together. We actually go out for dinner and whatever on Feb 13th so we can have a less hectic time together. All the crowds and mad rushes by other ppl take the fun out of it.See More

I know I’m not alone…I’ve already started seeing a few status updates of friends who are not looking forward to the 14th.
It is a special day though!  Every day we are living, touching others is a day to celebrate!  I believe Matt is cor…rect…we should celebrate love each & every day!  Loving & valuing ourselves & our loved ones because of the Jesus who lives inside.  If everyone would see the treasure they truly are…goldmines!
So you knew Andre’ when you were younger?…and I noticed you go on regular dates.  Love it!See More

    • Crystal SmithI’ve known him since he was 17. We met at my home church in Jersey. He had a cousin he would visit in the summer. I was looking and praying for someone that loved God w/ all his heart, and would be affectionate. Andre’ is that person. Turns out I knew my husband all along and didn’t know it.

    • Matt’n’Julia Freeman DavisThat’s so true Stacy!   Seeking that fulfillment in our own power, or looking to a mate to make us complete will never be enough.  Married or Single…we must always find our fulfillment FIRST in our RELATIONSHIP with the Lord.
